Measuring a stockpile volume using reflectorless laser technology is by far the quickest and safest method available. Whether it's aggregate, coal, wood chips, asphalt or anything else you inventory, this solution has the ability to measure almost any surface without the need of a reflector.
Traditional methods require your crew to hold a prism pole and occupy areas of a large pile of material. This process can be time-consuming and sometimes dangerous. Some areas make using a total station and prism pole even impossible because of loose material that can cause safety hazards, not even mentioning lack of detail and poor results you can obtain.
Arranging for aerial fly-over is expensive and you will typically have to wait days or even weeks for the results. This technique may not even be available due to weather conditions. However, the need for monthly inventory assessments is becoming a reality.
Our solution integrates the TruPulse 360B, in conjunction with LTI’s MapSmart™ with Volume software, for accurately measuring the volumes of any kind of material.
A single operator can quickly gather and record data from a safe distance, with volume calculation results in less than an hour.
Typical Stockpile Measurement Procedure

Walk around the pile, temporarily marking instrument points that will afford full coverage of the surface.- Aim and shoot all necessary points on the pile from the starting location.
- After collecting your last data point, aim and shoot to the next instrument location and then occupy that point.
- Continue shooting the pile from each new location until the entire surface has been measured.
- Either transfer your field data to your PC for processing or perform volume calculations right in the field following a few steps found in MapSmart + Volume software.
We also provide you with a custom built DVD containing documentation on how to start using this solution.
We can also help you start-up with your activities with our training and field-support services. Feel free to ask for any inquiries you might have.
